Nonprofit experiences include work at the University of Kansas Health System, Boy Scouts of America, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri.

Daniel Chegwidden

Associate Consultant

Dan is one of the nation’s premier planned-giving experts. He has more than three decades experience, primarily in higher education and healthcare. Dan has built a reputation for growing young or non-existent planned giving programs into significant contributors. He graduated from the University of Kansas in marketing and public relations.

Wayne Courtois

Vice President of Grant Writing and Research

Wayne has over 20 years of successful grants experience. He has worked on capital campaigns raising funds from national and regional grant makers like the Kresge Foundation and Mabee Foundation. He has obtained grants from the NEA, National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Business Development Intern

Keith provides support for Hartsook’s special projects. Keith served as the Professional Development Committee Chair for the Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS) at North Carolina State University. In his volunteer role, he was responsible for identifying and engaging individuals to provide mentorships for AHS dual-degree students.

Donald has an outstanding record of managing teams to achieve excellence. His ability to build consensus and develop collaborative partnerships is an asset to nonprofits. Prior to his last position as Vice President, Institute Advancement for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Don led development for Colorado State University as VP for Development and Advancement.

Louis J. Gehring MM CFRE

Executive Vice President

Lou was Senior Executive Director of The Shawnee Mission Medical Center Foundation from 2003 until joining Hartsook. In 2005, he launched the Foundation’s largest-ever capital campaign, raising over $30 million, followed by a successful $11-million campaign. Lou raised over $80 million during his tenure at The Shawnee Mission Medical Center Foundation.

Associate Consultant

As the director of development for the Black Hills State University Foundation, Dwight set new fundraising records each year of his last four years with the Foundation, including $8 million raised. Prior to his tenure at Black Hills State University, Dwight was the major gifts officer for the University of South Dakota Foundation.

Lynn Hawks

Vice President

Lynn has guided successful campaigns up to $100 million. Hartsook relies on Lynn’s expertise in major gift strategy, executing meaningful and thoughtful development plans, encouraging planned giving as a transformative way to make an impact, collaborative signature events and other aspects of campaign management.

Stephen Jones

Executive Vice President

Steve provides support in development functions such as leadership recruitment and training, capital campaigns, annual giving, legacy giving and staff training. Prior to joining Hartsook, Steve served as the Presiding Bishop/Chief Financial Officer for the Community of Christ where he oversaw development and implementation of a five-year strategic financial plan.

Executive Vice President

Scott has a long and diverse background in fundraising and fundraising management. He also has significant experience across the disciplines of fundraising at the local, state, national and international levels. During his fundraising career, he successfully helped create new fundraising practices, as well as introduced turn-around strategies during times of significant change.
