Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates - well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist - was honored in 2010 with the Silver Buffalo Award by the Boy Scouts of America for his service to youth. This is Scouting's highest award bestowed upon adults. Gates participated in Scouts as a youth, achieving the rank of Life Scout.

Her grown son, Austin, participated in Scouts; they still have fond memories of him winning the Pinewood Derby when he was in the fourth grade.
