A Scout is Loyal

Loyal: Steadfast, dedicated, constant and true.

One who is loyal will not say yes when no is necessary. Loyal does not mean always agreeing. Clear communication is of higher value than self-interest or disingenuous "agreement." Above all, Hartsook is loyal to its clients because our mission is to help our clients fully realize their mission.

Ask Hartsook!

Do you have a tough fundraising question?
Send your questions to [email protected] and we will respond by email. Your question may be featured in a future eHartsook on Scouting.

QUESTION: Our council has leadership positions to fill. Any tips for ensuring new council officers transition well?

Having the wrong people at the helm can be unhealthy for an organization and lead to bigger problems down the road. Once identified, ensure prospective officers understand the council beyond what they thought they knew. Help clarify - early on - the things current officers wish they had known: What is the organization's reputation in the community? How are its leaders regarded? What is the relationship of the officers and staff? What is the council's financial standing? What is its fundraising track record? No surprises. For council officers, just as with donors, communication conveys appreciation and builds a foundation for growing trust.

John Warren, Executive Vice President (Winchester, Va.)

STOP stands for Situation, Threat, Observation and Plan. It is a survival technique used by military members and survival enthusiasts. It is also useful for organizations experiencing hardships or increased challenges in their development endeavors. Organizations needing immediate direction and guidance with any unusual circumstances may need to STOP, before they start. Go here to read more.
