Make Every Season a Season of Giving

imageWith the holidays in our rearview mirror, it is important to hold on to the season of giving as an ongoing inspiration for the New Year and throughout 2016.
From Thanksgiving to the end of each year, our thoughts naturally turn to giving. We grow more aware of the needs of others; we are encouraged by the sights and sounds around us to give of ourselves, so that the lives of others may be sustained and improved.

Yes, the New Year marks a new season of hope, but the reality is that for many, life is just as hard today as it was a month ago.

As nonprofits look ahead, here are tips for keeping the season of giving alive year round:

Recall the organization's year-end appeal.
Everything that was important then is just as important now. Stay empathetic and engaged as you approach prospective donors.

Renew your passion for the mission and demonstrate results.
Your mission is what sets you apart from other nonprofits and attracts donor interest. But it is through the fulfillment of your mission - achieving real outcomes related to your mission - that donors feel most compelled to give.

Remind others of your success in fulfilling the mission.
All year through, encourage staff, board members, donors, prospects and the community with new stories and real-life examples of how the organization is making a difference in the world.

As the New Year unfolds, make it your goal to raise more money for your organization than ever before, and begin by making every season a season of giving.
